About USF Botanical Gardens

The USF Botanical Gardens is part of the College of Arts and Sciences' ECORE (Environmental and Conservation Outreach, Research, and Education) System. The ECORE System brings the Botanical Gardens, the Forest Preserve, and Geopark under one leadership team to better serve faculty, student, and community needs. The Botanical Gardens consists of 16 acres of gardens and greenbelt on the Tampa campus of USF and maintains a living collection of more than 3,000 plants, animals and natural habitats.

Located at 12210 USF Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612, USF Botanical Gardens operates as a garden center serving Tampa in Florida. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under garden, botanical garden, hiking area, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In Tampa, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Florida, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 9 am–4 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. No phone number is listed for this business, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best route for directions and any contact details Google has on file. More information is available on its website, usf.edu.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 1,185 reviews, which is a strong result for a garden center in Tampa and suggests consistent service.

Tampa is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Tampa is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

A nice little garden to enjoy. They also had a small lake you can sit by on the dock. I loved seeing plants growing outside that in Minnesota you have to go to a conservatory to see.😊

I spent a few hours at the USF Botanical Gardens, and it was really nice. The paths are peaceful, and there’s a good variety of plants to see. It’s a quiet place to relax, take a walk, or just enjoy nature. Everything felt well cared for, and I appreciated being able to escape the usual city hustle for a little while.

Sometimes you just need a few minutes to reconnect with natureβ€”to breathe better oxygen, sit under beautiful trees, and slow life down a bit. The USF Botanical Gardens give you exactly that… and then some. While it’s on the smaller side and still growing new trees, the mature ones they already have are truly impressive and will stop you in your tracks. There are plenty of spots to sit and soak up the sun, trails for walking or running, and even a play area for kids. All it takes is a small donation per person, and you’re in. Any plant loverβ€”or anyone needing a peaceful resetβ€”will be very grateful they came here.

I was staying at the Embassy Suites USF for a class and decided I wanted to walk to the Botanical Gardens. It was worth the walk. The Gardens have a lovely nature walk, with lots of varieties of plants, flowers, bees, and more. I loved the whimsical touches through out the gardens. It is very peaceful, especially given its proximity to a busy road. There are greenhouses to peak into as well. The admission is very reasonable.

A very peaceful place. I took a class trip here and it was a very good place. Lots of places to relax. USF Students & Faculty come in free! Otherwise, it’s $5 to get here. I also like the nature trail here since you can gain some steps while you’re wandering the area. And just so you know that this is the only place in the USF Campus where you can do something like this. Overall, I recommend this place for short visits.
